As an expectant mother or birth mother, you have very clear rights. One of those rights is the ability to change your mind about making an adoption plan for your child. Choosing adoption is a challenging decision, and you need to be completely confident that it is the best choice.
Before you sign the Consent to Termination of Parental Rights and Adoption document, be sure your adoption coordinator has fully explained the adoption process. At A Gift of Hope Adoptions, we counsel you thoroughly about adoption and your rights before you decide.
How Much Time Do I Have to Decide?
In Missouri, you cannot sign the consent to terminate your rights until 48 hours after giving birth. This waiting period gives you time to meet and hold your baby if you would like.
Even if you have chosen an adoptive family, you are free to take as much time as you need. It is never too late to choose adoption. You can make a plan from the hospital or even after you return home. You should never feel pressured or rushed.
How Will I Know If Adoption Is Right For Me?
There is no shame in choosing to place your child for adoption. It is a loving option but also a difficult choice because of that love. You want what is best for your child.
A Gift of Hope Adoptions is a nonprofit private adoption agency fully licensed in Missouri. Our staff provides the counseling you need to determine in advance if adoption is right for you and your child. We listen to you and discuss your situation.
If you feel adoption is right, we work closely with you to find adoptive parents who share your desires for your child’s future. If, after counseling, you do not wish to place your child for adoption, we’ll refer you to resources that can assist you.
Our counselors provide long-term care. As the court approves your consent to adoption, we will be by your side, offering support and compassionate care. You won’t be alone.
