What Do Adoption Fees Cover?

Expectant mothers who consider placing their child for adoption and potential adoptive parents worry about the cost. For an expectant mother or birth mother, it costs nothing to place your child for adoption. What’s more, the type of adoption usually determines the fees for adoptive parents. Let’s take a closer look.

There’s No Cost for an Expectant or Birth Mother

You have enough to worry about when faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Many mothers who choose adoption are already parenting other children. You don’t need one more thing to add to the stress you are already feeling.

An expectant mother choosing to place her child for adoption or a birth mother who has already given birth pays nothing for adoption services.

Here is a list of some of the services A Gift of Hope Adoptions provides free of charge:

  • Counseling and one-on-one support
  • Coverage of prenatal and delivery medical expenses (as needed)
  • Coverage of all legal costs and attorney’s fees
  • Potential coverage of reasonable maternity expenses like housing, utilities, transportation, maternity clothes, and food
  • Matching services to assist you in finding a potential adoptive couple
  • Assistance with determining and arranging a customized adoption plan

Potential Fees for Adoptive Couples

As a full-service child-placing agency licensed in Missouri, A Gift of Hope Adoptions provides a full range of services for potential adoptive couples. Adoption costs vary, but here’s a list of some of the services we provide:

  • A legal home study, as required by Missouri law
  • Referrals to attorneys familiar with state law
  • Assistance in creating your adoptive parent profile
  • Matching services to show your profile to expectant mothers
  • Placement after the child is born
  • Post-placement services
  • Finalization of the adoption after the 6-month waiting period

In addition to the above, adoptive couples may be required to pay for the following:

  • Medical expenses not covered by insurance for the birth mother and baby
  • Potential coverage of reasonable maternity expenses like housing, utilities, transportation, maternity clothes, and food
  • Counseling for the birth mother
  • Birth mother’s attorney’s fees
