Choosing to make an adoption plan seems scary. There are many unknowns at first, but you’ve come to the right place to learn more. By selecting A Gift of Hope Adoptions, you receive individualized support and care to create the perfect adoption plan for you and your child.
From choosing the type of adoption and the potential adoptive parents to receiving long-term care after, we will be right by your side. And making an adoption plan for your child costs you nothing.
Where do I Start?
To make an adoption plan, you need to feel confident the agency you’ve chosen has your best interests at heart. It’s essential to select an adoption coordinator who listens to you, understands your unique situation, and can help you determine if adoption is the right answer for you and your child.
Your first meeting with a Gift of Hope Adoptions coordinator will be to learn more about you. We’ll ask questions like, “Why are you considering adoption?” and “What do you know about adoption?” It’s a time for you to ask questions, too.
We will never coerce or pressure you to make a decision. You are free to change your mind throughout the process until after signing legal documents, which, in Missouri, can only happen after your baby is at least 48 hours old.
Do I Select the Adoptive Family?
Yes, you have total control over who will raise your child. Making an adoption plan is your chance to shape their future. Do you want them raised on a farm or in a big city? Should they be the oldest or have immediate siblings? You choose based on what’s important to you.
A Gift of Hope Adoptions is licensed in Missouri, but we have access to potential adoptive couples nationwide. We can match you with the perfect couple who has completed all requirements for adoption.
Will I Have Contact With My Child and Their Family?
You choose the type of adoption you are most comfortable with. Today, 90 – 95% of adoptions are open or semi-open. These allow you to have ongoing contact with your child and their adoptive family.
If you are adopting in Missouri, you can craft a legally enforceable open adoption contact agreement. The Child Welfare Information Gateway outlines the requirements for each state, and we will make sure you understand your rights as a birth parent.
If you prefer to have no further contact, you can select a closed or confidential adoption. The choice is entirely up to you.
Do I Get Paid for Making an Adoption Plan?
It is illegal for anyone to pay a person to adopt their child. However, the potential adoptive parents can pay some of your pregnancy-related expenses. For instance, they may be able to pay your medical and legal costs.
Every woman’s situation is unique. Therefore, the assistance you receive is determined on an individual basis.
