You may be weighing the option of having an abortion or making an adoption plan. Both options have a lifetime of consequences, so it’s essential to get as much information as possible about each before you decide. Our adoption specialists understand how difficult this decision is. We want to give you the information you need to be confident.
Abortion vs. Adoption
An unplanned pregnancy means you have the chance to write the next chapter of your life. Deciding whether abortion or adoption is the right choice is difficult. No one should ever force you to make either decision. It’s your choice and only YOUR choice.
Abortion
No matter what you’ve heard, abortion is not a simple medical procedure. Every abortion procedure has definite physical and emotional side effects and potential risks.
The number of weeks you’ve been pregnant determines what type of procedure you qualify for, medical or surgical. Medical abortions are an option up until ten weeks gestation. A surgical procedure may be required if you are past ten weeks.
Abortion terminates your pregnancy. There are no opportunities to meet your child or be a part of their future.
Adoption
With adoption, a birth mother (and father) choose a plan for their child. As part of making your plan, you select the adoptive family, the environment you want for your child, and if you want to have future contact.
There are three basic plans: open, closed, and semi-open. Make your choice based on the amount of one-on-one contact you want with the adoptive family and your child.
Adoption gives your child a new life and allows you to have a relationship in the future.
